1930 Wilkinson Sword The Empire Self Stropping Razor
RICHARDS RAZORS;  MAKE ME AN OFFER I CAN'T REFUSE!

1930 WILKINSON Sword EMPIRE SAFETY RAZOR comes in a beautiful Oak Box w 3
Original Blades made in England.  For collectors of vintage and antique
razors, the name Wilkinson holds a special place. So it is with this premium
1930s-era safety razor from Wilkinson's Empire line.  This Wilkinson Sword
Empire Model Razor has been previously owned & used but not abused, with
only the very faintest signs of age. The most evident being a small bit of
surface ware to the case.

The razor kit comes in an oak box that measures 5 inches wide, 1 1/2
inches high and 2 1/2 inches front to back. The safety razor itself is 3 1/4
inches long and the whole kit weighs 8.8 ounces.  The razor kit has been
used but was well-cared for. The hollow ground blades are in very good
condition with no rust at all. The razor itself is in overall almost mint
condition, it has been cleaned with antibacterial soap and sanitized in
Barbasol and then, polished to a high sheen, as can be seen in the pictures.
This razor would be a great addition to anyone's classic razor collection!

History:
Wilkinson & Son entered the shaving market during the 1850’s when their records show customers being supplied with specially selected open razors made for them by leading London makers.  In the early 1890’s following their design and patenting of machinery to produce the perfect hollow ground edge to a blade, Wilkinson Sword Co Ltd (Incorporated in 1889) introduced ‘The Figaro’ open razor.  These razors were supplied in four blade widths and either singly (left), pairs, fours or seven, (one for every day of the week and etched with the day on the rounded top of the blade.)
Six. It was another ten years before Wilkinson patented their Safety Shaver, which was launched in 1903, winning a gold medal for excellence the following year.  The razor featured a number of revolutionary improvements to the safety razor such as Wilkinson’s ‘Patent Anti Friction Roller’ which, unlike the crude combs of other safety razors, gave a smooth rolling action over the face and fed the lather onto the cutting edge of the blade.
The success of the razor, which was sold singly and in larger sets with three, four or seven blades, encouraged Wilkinson Sword Co Ltd to produce other razors and shaving ancillaries.
With both Open and Safety Razors to cater for the two different markets, Wilkinson Sword now set out to improve and perfect their designs and in the next fifty years became leaders in an already fast moving shaving market.

This historical piece of wet shaving history was manufactured by the Wilkinson
Sword Co. Ltd. (Incorporated in 1889) of England. It was manufactured
between 1929-1952 during the time era when straight razor manufacturers were
competing with the newly released safety razors.
