VERY RARE 1922 Gillette Tuckaway G-in-D STAMPED Silver

VERY RARE 1922 Gillette Tuckaway G-in-D STAMPED Silver, New Improved

This razor is extremely collectible, per Krumholtz Page 186; he lists the "G" in "D" as "Scarce".

This very nice Tuckaway in it's original case, the
shaving kit comes from the 1920s, 1922
when these razors were not numbered. This razor has a
G-in-D stamped on the underside of the
blade head. There is light vintage wear to the plating of the
razor and the case.

As with almost every Gillette razor of this era, there
is a hairline crack at the end of the handle
tube.  The crack is stable, the pieces are secure.
Shaving is not affected.

The teeth of the comb are straight. The razor has been
sanitized in Barbicide and scrubbed with
antibacterial soap. The case is square and sturdy; the latch
latches and opens as it should.

THIS ITEM IS A VERY RARE 1922 Gillette Tuckaway G-in-D
STAMPED
This razor is a 1922 Gillette  "New Improved" razor
using the pioneering system of disposable blades.
(patented by Gillette in 1904).  Silver-plated
"NEW IMPROVED" razor.
This razor is extremely collectible, it has a marking
of a "G inside a D" on the bottom of the
blade holder which means that at one point the razor was
returned to the Gillette factory for repair.

Apparently Gillette gauranted it's razors and if part
of the razor got damaged you could return it
andy would either fix or replace the part.  When
finished Gillette stamped a "G inside a D" so
that that piece was not eligible to be fixed for free twice.
As I was told by a representative from
the Gillette history department.  He told me also that
the "G inside a D" stood for Damaged Gillette or damaged goods.

This is the really rare thing about this razor, think
of the millions of safety razors Gillette sold
and the very small number of razors returned to be fixed!!
This razor is one;  you tell me how
many more there are that still exist.  If you find one
you better keep it because there are very
few.  I've been collecting razors for about 40 years and
I have only seen 3 of these razors with the GD.

1921 GILLETTE NEW STANDARD SHAVING KIT IN ORIGINAL BOX

1921 GILLETTE NEW STANDARD SHAVING KIT IN ORIGINAL BOX

This 1921 Gillette "NEW STANDARD"  has been previously owned & used through the years since it's
manufacture.  Being manufactured in 1921 this Gillette is at least 90 Years old.
For this razor to be 90 years old it still looks great, faint flaws & all. The flaws of this
Gillette are truly minor for a 90 Year old Razor.  This "NEW STANDARD's" plating has withstood the
test of time gracefully with ALMOST NO signs of wear!  The case is in great condition, the outside
being almost mint with just a small bit of wear that can be seen in the pictures.

The head shows small signs of wear, just a few tiny surface scratches & scuffs nothing too bad
at all.  The underside of the head piece shows mimimal signs of wear.  The teeth of the open tooth
comb blade guard have withstood the test of time wonderfully with no bends or breaks at all.  All
original Gillette manufactured.  Any signs of age only add to the character of a Vintage Razor!
It is a must have for a Gillette collector.

The New was supposed to be easier to clean, a bit more durable and lessen the chance of nicks
and cuts, perhaps by holding the blade more securely.  The New Standard is a set with a New
Improved razor made from 1921-1928.  In 1921 Gillette released the New Improved razor with the
heavier flat guard. Since the old Standard was now gone, one of the sets that came out was the
NEW STANDARD. It was one of the sets that replaced the Old Type razor developed in 1903.

HISTORY:
The American Safety Razor Company, founded in the early 20th century (1906)
by a merging of the Gem Safety Razor Co. and Ever-Ready, has been the
principal competitor to Gillette for a century and more. At various times,
incarnations of the ASR have produced PAL, GEM, and Bump-Fighter razors and
the Treet, PAL, and Personna brands of blades. They currently own the
Bond-America Israel Blades, Inc. company as well, that manufactures some of
the Personna-branded DE blades. The company produces a wide range of blades
and cutting tools.

The Kampfe brothers, who patented the first safety razor in the US,
formed a manufacturing company in 1875. They make the "Star" razor. It was
the first safety razor made in the United States. The Star Razor's
revolutionary design won national and international awards for design and
craftsmanship. In 1898, after working for the Kampfe Brothers for 23 years,
an employee, Jerry Reichard, left to form the Gem Cutlery company, later
renamed the Gem Safety Razor Company. Its first product, the Gem Safety Razor,
borrowed heavily from the Star Razor in design but soon outpaced the Star
and became one of the world's most famous razor and blades ever made.

Reichard, the founder of Gem left again to form the Yankee company, which
was soon renamed the Ever-Ready Company. Ever-Ready and Gem quickly re-merged
as the American Safety Razor Company, in 1906. In 1919, they absorbed the Star
brand as well. The company purchased the PAL blade company in 1953. Philip
Morris purchased the company in 1960. Philip Morris purchased Burma-Vita
company (makers of Burma-Shave) in 1968. ASR bought the Burma-Shave brand
from Philip Morris in 1979, after a management buyout of ASR from Philip
Morris in 1976.

1971 Gillette Black Beauty w Case and NOS Blades

1971 Gillette Black Beauty w Case and NOS Blades
RICHARDS RAZORS;  MAKE ME AN OFFER I CAN'T REFUSE!

1971 Gillette Black Beauty Safety Razor with Case and NOS Platinum Plus
Blades. The handle of this great Gillette collectible is 4 1/2 inches
long, and is as beautiful as the date it was made. This razor opens and closes
is it should. There is some minor cosmetic signs of use, a small bit of
marking on the underside of the razor head. Please be sure to look at the
pictures closely as they are the best description of this beautiful Gillette
razor and case. The razor has had a minor cleaning, but the new owner more
than likely will take pride in cleaning and polishing his own razor.  Marked
R–3, the razor was made in the third quarter of 1971.

The razor case is in Very Good+ condition with no visible scratching. There
are no cracks or gouges to the top or bottom of the case. The blade
compartment doors open and close correctly also they are good and
shiny.  The adjusting wheel has a discernible click at each number and the
numbers still maintain the original paint which is in very good condition. In
my humble opinion this great collectible is overall in very good+ condition.

1946 Tech Contract Razor NOS in Box w Blue Blades

1946 Tech Contract Razor NOS in Box w Blue Blades
RICHARDS RAZORS;  MAKE ME AN OFFER I CAN'T REFUSE!

1946 NOS Gillette Tech Contract Razor with Box & Blue Blades. This item is a
NOS and is in Excellent condition. The razor has the paper insert that reads:
Avoid nicks, scrapes and discomfort. Use Gillette Blades Only. They are made
to fit this razor precisely. The box shows VERY light vintage ware. The
package of razor blades inside still has the cellophane wrap on the box.
The razor is unused also still having the factory paper behind the head.
This kit is in excellent never used condition. The Gillette Tech Contract
Razor is a light weight, coming in at 53g.  Please make sure to see the
pictures as they are best description of all, also in some the pictures I
forgot to remove the packing material, please excuse my error.

The Tech is one of those rare Gillette razors that actually got better for
a while instead of worse. The razor in the photographs dates from 1946, in my
opinion Tech variants are probably the nicest.  Quality of the handle
construction varied over the years, but it is best to look out for a thin
handle like the one above.  The Tech is a light razor, the weight of this
razor is 53g and generally well balanced.

The Tech is a three piece razor and probably the least aggressive shaving
tool generally available. This lack of aggression is both a positive &
negative. For me I like a little more aggression, but a Tech is capable of
a close shave and it just does it very gently, a good razor for those who
have particularly sensitive skin.

1880s Torrey's U.S.Navy Razor Strop
RICHARDS RAZORS;  MAKE ME AN OFFER I CAN'T REFUSE!

Here we have a J.R. Torrey strop tool with handle and Original box with
company name on one side of box. The strop business was established in 1858
by Joseph Rice Torrey (born 1828) in Worcester, Massachusetts. The strop is
12 3/4" X 1 1/2" X 1" "TORREY'S U.S.NAVY RAZOR STROP" are the bold markings
that surround a vignette depicting a sailor standing by a ship's capstan.
All printed on a deep red label that is affixed to the top of a long case
that stores shaving gear.  Also fitted with a tin drawer that has a wood
front with brass knob.

There is a bit of vintage ware to label with no image loss, the case also
has a bit of vintage ware, please see the pictures as they are the most
accurate description of the item. Overall very good condition. The leather
appears to be pretty nice. Some wear, but still supple. The strop has been
used as shown, but, overall looks great to me as does the box sleeve. Torrey's
Navy Razor Strop, a wonderful and affordable addition to any collection. Best
one I've ever handled!
