Notes of Interest: The Ranger Tech originally went into production for the holiday season in 1941;
however, production was canceled with the start of WWII. Gillette went into wartime production
of blades and 3 piece Techs for American troops. When the war was over, Gillette resumed production
of the TTO razors; but the Ranger had evolved into the Super Speed.
The center bar is unnotched, and the 1941 was made with no end caps. TTO (Twist To Open) type,
band above the TTO knob has: Pat. Nos. On Package. Uses standard double edge blades. Very good+ pre
owned condition.
A not so usually seen razor, this vintage razor was conceived for joyous 1941 Christmas season for
98 cents a box but prematurely aborted its less than a year production when the Word War II
progressed with the involvement of America. ( Gillette switched to the 3 piece design during the
war, and resumed the one piece TTO design after the war which by then was renamed the Gillette
Super Speed. )
This is a mild to medium aggressive one piece TTO razor that feels great for fingery shavers,
no tonnage of the fatboys, and even the slim adjustables. Though relatively lighter, it is pretty
balanced.
Although seemingly less abraiding than say a Goodfella chrome, this razor engages the stubbles
pretty well and I can get away with minimal passes and yet achieving a downright BB shave !
I must have gotten like only one negligent chin nick from the daily shaves for the past 2 weeks I
was using it. I think it would be pretty awesome for newbie DE shavers!
To clean the razor after the shave, release the TTO knob a little turn to unstress the razor blade
into its native shape, and gush water along the head.
